Till Summer Comes Again

This morning I awoke to a bitterly cold, grey day with a fine blanket of snow covering the ground in my world. Thankfully, I am not overly put off by this, as I just turn on the kettle usually, or sometimes indulge in some coffee with cream, and gravitate towards more warm weather fibers to knit or crochet with, such as alpaca and wool. Truthfully, these are my favorite fibers anyway and I love Winter for the opportunity it provides to stay in and snuggle up with a hot drink within reach, soft, luxurious yarn running through my fingers and a good book to turn to.
A bright spot in my morning was when I heard a package being delivered on my doorstep. Who doesn't love that, right? I was very excited to find my copy of "Lady Crawford" by Julie Cameron Gray inside that little package!
Now for those of you who aren't aware of it, that is actually our very own
of the popular blog
that so many of us have followed for years.
This is Julie's second published book.
I am savoring the moment in my hectic day when I finally get to sit down and open it and begin reading it. Oh, I have had a tiny sneak peek here and there and, of course flipped to the back to see her lovely face smiling back at me, but I am not letting myself skim it until I can have a proper sit down with it. I have waited far too long to have it in my possession for trifling. I am going to enjoy it thoroughly from cover to cover.
As for the Fingerless Mitts you see pictured,
you can find them by clicking on the live link.
I just listed them today, with the modeling help of my beautiful daughter Chelsea. I am working at restocking my Shop because it got pretty darn depleted over the holidays. I was shipping items right up through December 31st, even overseas. So I need a serious restock. I am trying to wedge this in between custom orders, which currently run into March.
So you might say I am Yarn Happy these days.
But who am I trying to kid?
I am Yarn Happy every day year round.
There just seems to be something cozier about it all on a cold snowy day.
I do like snow. When the light hits it just right it looks like millions upon millions of diamonds sparkling as far as the eye can see or pure white fairy dust that was sprinkled over the whole land while we slept. Even a little can be magical.  And no two flakes alike. Really? Somehow this has always fascinated me.
It gives us a reason to stay in close to hearth and home, as it were. Enjoying long evenings with our loved ones as we seek shelter from the cold world outside and recoup and regroup from the holiday season. Though I prefer Spring and Summer and warm sunny days, for the most part, this Icy Cold Maiden we know as Winter is not all bad. She brings us her own type for renewal and fresh beginnings.
Winter also teaches us patience as she makes us wait and bide our time till our long awaited fair weather friends come again.
I hope wherever your path takes you as this new year begins to unfold,
whether it's a cold and snowy one or a warm and sunny one,
that you are surrounded by those you love most,
doing all the things you love best.
"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields,
that it kisses them so gently?
And then it covers them up snug, you know,
with a white quilt; and perhaps it says,
"Go to sleep, darlings, till summer comes again."

Shabby Chic Bunny

This Sweet Shabby Chic Bunny just hopped onto my Shop today.
She's knitted from a beautiful Virgin Wool
that is what I would call a heathered oatmeal.
It is imported from Ireland and undyed.
This is the color of the lovely sheep who wore it first.
While knitting it up, I held the worsted weight yarn
double stranded to ensure no stuffing would peek through.
I gave her some pretty green embroidered eyes and a soft pale peach nose.
She's a bit dressed up in her rosy bow of cotton fabric.
Then there's that oh~so~cute tail.
I was so excited when Joanne contacted me to tell me
she had changed her policy and I was now allowed to
sell the bunnies made from her darling pattern.
Here's the link to her
where you can find the absolute cutest patterns.
Happy Day to You All!
I hope your Mother's Day was Beautiful!

# Love This

Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite haunts.
This morning I made a trip over with my daughter Chelsea and my grandson Parker.
Of course I headed for the stamping aisle.
It's like a treasure trove of its very own to me.
I found these darling little tags that I plan to use for pricing
at my next Craft Fair.
The prices will be written underneath the stamped
#lovethis
{which I do just love}.

Parker felt the need to wear my jacket while we were there.
He was delighted with the length of the sleeves
but was certain the button holes were areas that were
"broken".

Both of my grandsons were at my house
for awhile early this morning.

Archer & Parker

They are so cute when they're together.
It's a good start to my day.

my kids, too."

South Bay Shawlette

Because I seem to be in the mood to crochet these days...
and
I can't get enough of shawls...
here's one more.
This is the
that I just had to make.
It's just lovely and so versatile.
I can see why so many of you are making it yourself.
are the two who inspired me.
Thanks Girls!
I'm in LOVE.
For this first one I used Berroco Vintage in a DK weight.
{Notice I said "first one"... I just might be working on a second one ...}
The gorgeous Dusty Teal really makes me happy.
You can find the pattern on
If you love to crochet shawls,
this one is a
must.

Also,
I have a new
I would like to invite
all of you to visit.

Pink Poinsettia Tea Cozy

Remember the yarn I was winding a few days ago?
Well it has been transformed...
It now has the
lovely pleasure
of being
{a Custom Order on my Etsy Shop}

I used 4 shades of
Cascade 220 Wool.
Magenta
Soft Pink
 Soft White
&
Forest Green.

There are 3 large
 Irish Crochet
Leaves
nestled behind
the
Poinsettia.

Some of the petals are solid Pink...
Some are solid White...
Others are the two colors held together
to achieve the look requested by my customer.
The
Glitzy Gold
that was on the cone shaped spool
added just the right amount of
Sparkle
to the French knots in the center.
All of the flower petals and leaves have been
lightly
felted.

This is the image the customer sent me
before the whole process started.
Thankfully,
she is
Happy
with the end results,
which
after all is said and done
is what makes
Me
HAPPY
:-)))

Well,
That's pretty much all I have for now...
I must get ready for a night out.
First to Dinner...
Then the Theater.

Knitting & Napping in the Sunshine

Yesterday was a Glorious Day...
A day of Golden Sunshine...
Warm Breezes...
Autumn Leaves...
&
Fabulous Fall Smells.
Mercedes
{a.k.a. Miss Puddin' Tat}
and I made the most of it...
We sat in our favorite Sunny window
in the kitchen.
While I sipped tea and knitted the afternoon away,
She catnapped and relished in the
Rare Treat
of lying in an open window on a
November day
in Illinois.
My friend Eugenia
calls her my
Fall Kitty
because of her beautiful
Autumn coloring.
She really is lovely, isn't she?!
When I got up to make another cup of tea
I turned back around to find she had settled into a new
napping spot.
Ummm....
Excuse ME...
But I think that's MY spot.
She loves to curl up in my favorite
places throughout the house
the moment I get up.
So...
I nestled her onto my lap
{which is what she's always hoping for in the first place}
and finished my knitting.
A Triple Cable Rolling Brim Hat
with a cute
Top Knot.
I just love
Cables...
Can't get enough of them.

And the great thing about this hat is...
the
Cable Panel
runs up the back side as well.
My Sister dropped by with her sweet
Grandson Eli
who is 14 months old.
So I got to try the hat on him.
Look at those cheeks!

This darling hat is size 12-18 months.
It's going on my Etsy Shop today.

Happy Day to You All,
Be Blessed

M'Lady's Rosy Cloche

I'm sneaking out of the Pumpkin Patch just long enough to show you a few new items I listed yesterday in my Etsy Shop ~ Front Porch Knits. They are my absolute favorite ladies hats in the world! I love the pure luxury of 100% Baby Alpaca. Nothing beats the sumptuous softness. And  crocheted shells always lend that light, lacy air of femininity. Then, of course, the real Ooh~La~La factor for me is the ROSE!  { I have a confession to make ~ I so much prefer ROSES to pumpkins...shhh.... don't tell that to anyone in this town right now... I may get tarred & feathered!}

These fit close to the head and give a bit of a vintage~flapper girl look when worn. The rose goes to one side. They are very charming and actually quite warm. Though they are somewhat lacy and airy due to the sheer nature of the crochet, the Alpaca is very insulating. Quite soft and snuggly!

For a better peek at them  go to frontporchknits.etsy.com

Well, I really must say TTFN {Ta~Ta~For~Now!} and get myself back to the pumpkin patch.
Want a sneak peek of today's pumpkin finery?

It's patiently waiting for me to grow it into a Pumpkin Pincushion.
More on that in the next day or two!

Until we meet again!

Lacy Shells Baby Shawl

Yes! A Dinosaur Egg really can become a Baby Blanket! Remember that MONDO ball of yarn I was so excited to find? Well it did finally hatch itself into a lovely blankie  {a few weeks ago actually ~ I just realized I forgot to show you all!}. So here's the BEFORE picture again:
I love the fact that it was a continuous feed of yarn that didn't require adding new skeins and working new ends in. Just like knitting from those wonderful cones of yarn. Makes the working time faster and the finished product smoother. And then of course, the real frosting on the cake is  when it's over it's over. So... without further ado.....the finished product....
Hope you like it as much as I do! I'm crazy about the vintage feel the lovely shade of beige lends it. I put it up for sale on my new {and still tiny!} Etsy Shop ~ Front Porch Knits.
Happy Fiber Frolicking {and whatever else you get your fingers in to} To All Of You Today!
