A Cold Winter's Day

Once again

it is a 

Cold Winter's Day.

There's about a foot of snow on the ground

and the temperature is only 5 degrees.

So I have spent part of the day

sitting in my kitchen,

by a sunny window,

knitting a stack of 

heart shaped cloths

and

enjoying a supply of new books,

along with a nice pot of tea.

Since my last post

I have made a couple more cupcakes as well.

I gifted them to my 

Monday night

Knit Night Girls

and they loved them!

I am so thankful I have plenty of yarn on hand

and a good supply of patterns.

It sure helps me get through a long Winter.

Phoebe,

Knit Night & A Dog Bite

On Monday night I had just sat down to a lovely cup of hot cinnamon tea with my Knit Night Girls gathered round my dining room table. Carey baked us these divine white rose cupcakes. Aren't they gorgeous?! Well, I had just swallowed the last bite when all kinds of commotion broke loose in the kitchen where my Mom and Scott were finishing up supper.

As Scott was getting up from the table a chicken bone slid right off his plate and faster than greased lightening, Phoebe, one of my weenie dogs snapped it right up! Not being fed table food, she was sure this was manna from Heaven! It was a leg bone. And it was in her throat in an instant. Well, I'm not about to let a dog choke to death. They are my babies. So, I went after it.

And that's where we entered the "dog bite" portion of the night.

Now let me just say this right from the start.

I have 3 dogs.

Not a single one of them would ever bite anyone.

Especially not their beloved Mommy.

Especially not THIS dog.

She is THE MOST gentle dog I have ever had.

She is all HEART

She has no idea she even bit me.

She was gulping and chewing at the same time and before I could get my finger back out, she bit down. No growling or fighting me in that way. She just wanted that chicken bone.

When I pulled my finger out it had 5 punture wounds.

Carey is a nurse practitioner. She helped me clean it and dress it. It didn't need stitches but it is quite swollen, sore and a bit bruised.

I was not able to knit or crochet with the Girls at all since it was my right index finger but we still had a good time once we got through our mini medical emergency.

Oh!

The chicken Bone?

NO DOG IS GOING TO CHOKE TO DEATH ON MY WATCH IF I CAN HELP IT

 

As far as knitting news goes, I have decided to make a full blown shawl out of the beautiful Deja Vu yarn. I AM going to do a neckwarmer sized one eventually as well, but I want this one to be a shawl for Me really bad!

And I am so sorry I did not respond to each individual comment as I usually do. My darn index finger has been too sore to type!

But I did make the jaunt out to the yarn shop for a couple more skeins so this swelling better go down soon so I can pick my hook back up and get busy.

I can't wait to wrap it around my shoulders :)

A Sweet For My Sweet

I was delighted when I found this adorable pattern on the Cherry Heart blog for Yummy Scrummy Cupcakes & Minis  just recently. Thanks so much for the free download Sandy! I immediately printed it off and knitted one up for my sweet little granddaughter Gabby who, as I've mentioned before, loves a tea party.

The pattern was so nice to work with and was done up in no time. The only thing I did different was to add a crocheted piped frosting edge at the base of the chocolate icing. I thought Gabby would enjoy the extra bit of fluff!

Then I went back to the Cherry Heart blog and crocheted a sweet tiny rosebud and leaf to sit atop the confection using her pattern for Rose Curtain Ties. Gotta love her  WAY TOO CUTE STUFF!  

Now I must make more of these yummy scrummy's, as I'm sure my Little Sweet will need a few extras for her friends to play tea party too!

Cupcakes Anyone?

One of my favorite things to knit is baby hats. They are cute, soft, warm & so quick to make that it's almost instant gratification. And who doesn't love to see little cherub cheeks peeking out of them?! So I do make many baby hats for gifts and for customers. I love all of them but I have to say nothing tickles me so very much as these darling cupcake hats do! I mean really.... such sweet little confections. And they are so adorable with precious baby faces peering out from underneath.  I load them up with as many crystal and glass sprinkles as I can without making the whole thing too sickeningly sweet. I love the way they sparkle in the light. Each hat has between 85 ~ 100 beads depending on the size of the hat. I actually enjoy sewing each bead on. It's fun to see where the cupcake will take me from start to finish. These hats are a real creative outlet for me. They're like knitting and baking rolled into one without the kitchen cleanup {or the calories}! Also there's a wee bit of crochet thrown in with the tiny ruffled piping going around the frosting edge.

*And ~ yes ~ I realize the picture is sideways ~ Dang it anyway! I snapped just this one picture and they are off to the boutique now so I went ahead & posted it in hopes you all might just hold your head sideways for a  moment or so. Sorry!
