Homemade With Love

I spent the afternoon at my daughter Chelsea's house yesterday.
It's fun to be there when Gabby gets home from school
because she has a little brother who gets very excited.
He napped all afternoon but the moment she entered the door and her voice rang out,
there was another little voice calling out from the bedroom,
"Gabby, Gabby...
Sissy, Sissy...!!!"
He was happy to see his Grammy was there too but quite honestly
it's that Big Sister who really lights up his world!
He likes to pull out books from the corner cabinet
for her to read to him while he sits in the bottom shelf.
Notice Gabby is backed up to a gate.
That's her bedroom door.
The gate has to stay up or Parker will ransack her room.
He's pretty sure it's the
Promise Land
with all it's glitter and glory.

This is Archer and Parker taking a front row seat to the TV at Grammy's on Mother's Day.
I love capturing moments of the two of them together.
When we found out both our daughters were expecting babies so close to the same time
 we were absolutely thrilled.
Then to find out they were both Boys!
That was even more exciting.
It's wonderful to know they will grow up so close.
We all live within 10 minutes of each other.
My girls actually live on the same street.
I am so thankful for all of them.
I really do love being a Grammy.

One last thing today...
An old family recipe.
If you love chocolate and brownies,
this one's for you.

Fudge Pie

2 Eggs
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Butter {softened to room temperature}
3 Tablespoons {heaping} Hershey's Cocoa
1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla

Spray a glass pie plate with cooking spray.
Blend all ingredients together.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
Cool slightly but serve while still warm.

Enjoy with your favorite Cuppa!

Treasures on Earth and in Heaven

About a month ago I was sent on an errand for my elderly Mother-in-law.
She was in search of a new chair.
Her first mistake was sending me into one of my favorite places,
just down the street from my house
First Dibs
where an entire treasure trove of upscale second hand furniture and various household items
are just longing to come home with
ME.
The moment I entered the store this Beauty called out to the Soul of this
knitter
crocheter
reader
journaler
tea drinker
daydreamer...
It wanted so very badly to live the rest of it's beautiful life with Me that I could not tell it NO...
And So...
We now have a beautiful relationship.
I just LOVE finds like this.
I believe it's from the 1950's.
Absolutely perfect condition.
Beautiful soft aqua/teal color with raised swirls of another color that's hard to peg.
Kind of lilac blue... almost pale periwinkle.
And it's low to the ground, which is lovely for me because I am only 5'3".
It fits me like it was MADE for me...
Like it has spent it's entire life waiting for me.
I love Vintage and Antique items.
They draw me in with the promise of stories they hold.
The lives they've passed in and out of.
The homes they've graced; the laughter and tears they've heard and even caught.
I'm more at ease in something old than I am in something new.
I think it's because there were other lives, other souls there before me.
I feel more settled, warmer, somehow comforted.
Apparently I am not the only one who feels the pull.
Every time I get up I come back to find Mercedes snuggled into this chair.
She has very quickly claimed it as her new napping spot.
I find her in it throughout the day and, of course,
the moment I settle into it with my handwork she joins me.
The size of  the chair is also perfect for children.
The first time Archer, my sweet little grandson, discovered my new friend
it was like a welcome invitation to him.
He wandered off into the next room and gathered some of the books I keep here and nestled himself
right into the lap of that comfy old chair and let himself feel that warm hugging sensation.
My granddaughter, Gabby, has always been drawn to Vintage and Antique things...
 she feels that pull too.
Maybe Archer will be the same way.
I think it's born in some of us.
My Mother has always told me I was
"Born with an Old Soul".
Maybe I have a couple of grandchildren with the same inward design.
The same love of history and things that out live us and go on to touch the lives of others.
For whatever reason
I find peace and beauty and great comfort in these things.
I like knowing that other people have lovingly used things I now treasure and that
someday, if I take great care,
another soul will take delight in the things I call my treasures now.

I would like to say that I don't mean to come across materialistic.
My real treasures are the sweet little ones who sit in my chair
{even the furry ones napping there}.
And the family and friends God has so richly blessed me with.
I am just a person who truly
Loves
History and Old things.
And when I stumble across such a perfect fit like this chair,
I see it as a Gift straight from the Hand of God.
I believe wholeheartedly that He intends for us to enjoy and treasure things
that He knows delight us in this life while we are here.
Things we love and need.
I have 2 Rheumatoid Diseases,
which I give myself a weekly injection for.
Sitting comfortably is always very challenging for me.
Chair shopping for me is like Goldilocks trying out the beds... only worse.
When I do find the EXACT right thing it is always something old... never new.
I did not find a chair for my Mother-in-law that day.
As it turned out, that wasn't what God had in mind at all.

"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys,
 and where thieves do not break in or steal;
for where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:20,21

Where is your favorite place to sit and do your most beloved things?
I would really love to hear about it and all the things you do there.

It Must Be Bunny Love

I decided a few days ago that my grandchildren need
knitted and stuffed bunnies for Easter this year.
Actually,
I made them some last year.
Just the tiny, stripey ones that I showed in my last post.
The ones I call
 "Pocket Bunnies"
on my
They love them and still carry them around and play with them.
Hilary told me Archer enjoys making his hop.
His way of making this happen is to fling it onto the floor
and then stomp it half to death.
Hilary assures me he is in his sock feet...not his shoes.
{In case I was bothered by this abuse}
I told her it doesn't matter, that it's his bunny now
and he can treat it however he wants to.
Archer will be 2 this September...
So you see he probably really does think he is making the bunny hop
when he does this ;-)

This year however, I went on the hunt for a bunny
that looked more like a
Rabbit
And after scouring Ravelry and Etsy this is the one
 I fell in love with.
You can find this absolutely adorable pattern for sale on
a beautiful Shop called
If you are interested just click this link to go straight to the pattern.
I won't be knitting these darling fella's up for my own shop though
because Joanne, the shops owner and creator of this too sweet pattern,
doesn't allow her patterns to be used for selling purposes.
That's okay by me.
Not only did I really just want to make them for my grandchildren,
I have great respect for the talent and hard work of other people
and feel strongly about honoring their wishes...ALWAYS.
I'm just thankful to have found her shop and her patterns.
This was so well written and worked up just perfectly.
I'll be making more purchases from her in the future.

The first bunny pictured in the basket
{the cute fella seated on your left}
is the one who will go to Archer.... my little stomper.
It's the second
bunny rabbit I made.
Look at that tail... isn't it the cutest?!!

The one sitting on the right was my first one...
my trial run, so to speak.
And although I do like him...
I don't necessarily love him.
His flaws are not readily noticeable in this charming layout I configured
for Instagram but I can see them when I hold him in my hand.
He's knit from a fiber blend of 75% Acrylic and 25% Wool
 held single stranded
and I can
see through the stitches to the stuffing...eek!!!
And NO!!!!
Also,
I'm not totally crazy about the embroidery work on his face.
Therefore,
this sweet guy will not be going to one of my little sweeties for Easter.
Instead...
He is destined to live out his days
much more gently
right here with
ME.
The one I prefer was made from 100% Virgin Wool
held double stranded...
nice and tight...
no stuffing peaking out there!
And I'm a bit happier with the face...
still a work in progress :-)
There are more to be made, so I figure each one will get a tad better.
At first I was worried about using wool, thinking they should be washable.
Even though I really wanted to use this particular wool because
I love the color for a rabbit.
Then I showed it to my daughters and they both loved it too.
They said,
"Go ahead, we don't care about washing them anyway."
Well, there you go.
I guess if they get too dirty in the whole hopping/stomping
process of their lives
I can always make more.

Come Along Inside...

Good Morning to Everyone...
I hope you are all having a lovely week so far.
Mine has been quite nice.
Full of all my favorite things
Family
Friends
&
Fiber
{oh! And lots & lots of tea drinking in the midst of it all}.
On Sunday we got to spend the afternoon
with the 3 baby boys in the family
Parker
My Grandson
Born to my youngest daughter Chelsea
in May of  2014
Eli
My Sister Bridget's Grandson
Born to her youngest son Brendan
in August of 2014
 AND
Archer
My Grandson
Born to my oldest daughter Hilary
in September of 2014
{shown here on Scott a.k.a. PaPa's lap}
*Note they are both wearing their Chicago Bears shirts :-)
They are all so CUTE when they get together under the same roof!

Although this happened a few weeks ago now...
I have to show my oldest Grandson
Drew
going to his first homecoming dance
Isn't he handsome?!
He will be 15 in March.
I had to include him in the
Grandson Parade.

Last night our one and only
Granddaughter
Gabby
{Gabriella}
had a Fall Program at school.
She's in the Third Grade.
She's pictured here with Chelsea & Eric.
She spent the night with Grammy and PaPa last night
since there was no school today.
I think you can say she was worn out from the festivities...

Monday morning a yarn shipment arrived,
which always makes me like
a little girl on Christmas morning!
Even when it's to use for a custom order.
Makes no difference...
the Joy is in the
Creating.
The wool had to be wound into these pretty little
Yarn Cakes
I absolutely love this
Tabletop Amish Style Wooden Yarn Swift
that I purchased back in January 2015
from
It's beautifully handmade of
Solid Oak
and has adjustable pegs that move easily
to accommodate hanks of yarn from 36" to 72".
I love the fact that there are
NO hold clips involved.
It has non-skid pads that don't mark my table and it doesn't move
when in use.
It is smooth sailing!
The best yarn swift, by far, that I've ever had! :-)))
So if you're interested
click on the live link
to visit the Etsy Shop
where Ken handcrafts and sells these beauties for
 only
$56.00.
Included in the purchase is a
fabulous fabric bag
for storage,
hand sewn by Ken's wife.
It's made of beautiful, sturdy fabric.
Be sure to check Ken's Shop out.
He makes other gorgeous handcrafted wood items,
including
Crochet Hooks
:-)))

As for what I'm doing with this lovely yarn...
Here's your HINT...
No respectable Teapot should ever be Naked.
{I will show you the finished product soon}

We'll see if tea and buns can make the world a better place."
