Soft Summer Days

As Spring has become Summers bloom,
I feel its peaceful heat settle around me like a sweet dreamless nap
and I wrap myself in the warmth
of soft Summer Days.
For me the season is at it's best when it is fresh and new;
all of it's promise lying ahead.
The trees are full of leaves and the air is heavy with fragrant flowers.
Yet so much still lies ahead.
Adventures waiting to take us to places unknown.
Road trips with family,
visits with old  friends,
new friends to find,
walks in the dark with fire flies lighting our way,
picnics in the park,
the laughter of children playing outside,
and for me...
another year older.
Maybe that's one of the reasons I love Summer so much.
Who doesn't love a reason to celebrate?
My birthday is the last day of June.
I celebrated a little early with my friends Amy and Krista
because Krista will be gone on vacation when my birthday actually rolls around.
We never miss each others birthday.
These two special women have been like family to me for close to forty years now.
Amy, Danette, Krista
We spent a lovely afternoon together at Amy's house.
As you can see, she knows how to make a birthday girl feel special.
She even had my beloved cinnamon rolls.
There's a lot to be said for lifelong friendships!

June is full of birthdays for my family.
We celebrated my nephew Brendan's 21st birthday on the 21st... his Golden.
My sister made him a fruit pizza because he doesn't care much for cake.
Today is my father's 74th birthday and my mother in law's 90th birthday.
There will be a party for my dad at my parent's home this afternoon
with my in-laws in attendance as well.
Then tomorrow we are having a huge Open House for
the Big 90th Birthday Party.
My parents will be there too.
We celebrate all of our holidays and birthdays together.
For so many years now we have been one big family.
I am so thankful for that.

I missed my Thankfulness Tuesday post this week due to sickness.
I am battling a serious case of bronchitis and praying I am well enough for
my mother in law's special day.
I rented the hall and planned all the catering.
Now I am praying I make it to the party.
My dad's will have to take place without me today.

Through it all I've knit a few stitches here and there.
Using this beautiful yarn I purchased on a recent road trip
that I will tell you about soon.
This is the first mitt. I have the second one nearly finished too.
I will show them together soon and tell you about the yarn and
where to find this lovely pattern.

For now...
I hope you are enjoying your own
Soft Summer Days.
With Love,

  1. First off Happy Birthday to your family members and to you at the end of the month. Your friends look as nice as you are, so lucky you have each other. I am sending out a prayer that you feel better.

    1. Thank you Meredith ☺️
I am so blessed by their friendship. Thank you for your prayers. I went to my mother in laws party for a couple of hours but I came home and went straight back to bed. My compromised immune system doesn't fight infections well once they get ahold of me.
I'm praying I can stay out of the hospital this time because Scott is on vacation this next week and I want to enjoy some time with him.
      Love you my friend,

  2. Happy Birthday, Danette! And what lovely friends you have - Birds of a feather, I say. :) Now, I understand why we like so many of the same things. We're both Junebugs! My bday is the 28th (My next oldest brother's is on your bday.) so June is always my best time of the year.
Love the mitt! So pretty. I'm working on socks that seem to take forever.
Hope you are better soon. Bronchitis is no fun. And what is it with so many being sick in the summer this year? I had something similar last month, nearly coughed my head off.

    1. Thank you and Happy Birthday to YOU!
Yes that explains a lot ☺️
June is a beautiful month for a birthday. Happy birthday to your brother too! I keep telling everybody I will be 40 again this year ... But .... Really I will be 52
I LOVE this mitt pattern Big Time! I'll tell about it soon. I'm on my second pair now. Socks always take forever! I love them but don't make them often because of the time issue. I am always knitting for other people. It's my day job. So much of what I make is dictated by others.
I still feel pretty bad. I have a sinus infection too
I hate being sick in the summer! So glad you are better. Let's make a pact - no more sickness!!!
      Love to you my friend,

  3. I'm so sorry you are sick, Danette! I pray that you get well soon. You are an amazing knitter. You really are.
    Happy birthday to you!

    1. Thank you so much Pom Pom! It hit fast and furious. I've been miserable. I made it to my mother in laws party for a couple of hours but came home and went straight back to bed.
Thank you so much for the compliment about my knitting!
I can't tell you what that means to me 😊
And thanks for the birthday wishes!
      Love to you sweet friend,

  4. Happy birthday for the end of the month, hope you're feeling well for it xx

    1. Thank you so much Cheryl!
      I'm sure trying 😊
      Darn these Summer sicknesses!!!
      Blessings to you friend,

  5. happy birthday!!! I'm so glad you have a good family and wonderful friends who help make you feel loved and showered with birthday traditions. Your mitt looks wonderful! And that fruit pizza, Mmmmmm.

    1. Thank you Julie! I am truly blessed with family and friends and very thankful for each and every one of them. These mitts are from the Blue Brick. I'm on my second pair now. I also purchase a pattern for the boot cuffs. I'm going to get some yarn in August. I'm about to go crazy on that website Girl!
