Forever In Our Hearts

Jose'
February 4, 2002
to
November 10, 2013.
It is with a grieving heart that I let you all know
our
Sweet Little Jose'
passed away
 in the wee hours of
Sunday, November 10th.
He would have been 12 in February.
As I mentioned in earlier posts,
he hit a rough spot of repeated seizures
 and then he got pneumonia.
We did all we could for 2 weeks
but he was so fragile.
Thankfully,
he died here at home with his family
where he was much loved.
We had him cremated
{the first time we have ever done that}
and he has his home on the mantel now.
The funeral home was wonderful.
They gave me a paw print and a couple of hair clippings.
My Dad showed up with the Chihuahua ornament.
My sister came with a lovely card
and a gorgeous bouquet of roses.
Which are now being dried.

We received cards from the Vet's office
and family members.
It is a loss we all feel deeply,
especially me.
He was truly
My Baby.
So tiny, always so dependent on me.
I will miss him on Christmas Eve.
We always give the dogs their stockings when everyone has gone home.
It is amazing that they remember from year to year what a
Christmas stocking is.
Jose' was always the most excited of all.
This picture was taken last Christmas.

I will also miss him when Springtime
arrives again.
He loved the porch swing as much as his Mommy does!

He also loved it when he could find one of my knitting baskets
to snuggle up in.

I still find myself looking around the house for him.
Sophie and Phoebe
have also looked for their missing companion.
They are sad to lose him too.

For being such a Little Fella,
his presence was very large.

Rest in Peace,
we love you.
You are
Forever In Our Hearts.

Just could not stand the thought of putting him in the ground outside. He will stay in the house with his Mommy where he belongs :)

  8. Oh I'm so sorry Danette, it is such a terrible loss. We lost our Hannah this year too, almost 15 years old. She too looks down on us from her shelf in the family room, also the first time we had a pet cremation. You will always have your memories but I know how much you are missing him xx.

    1. Thank you Friend,
Our first dachshund was Hannah also. She made it to 17. I didn't realize you lost one this year. I am so sorry for you as well. What kind of dog was she? I like going the cremation route, how about you? I will do it from now on.
And yes, the memories are always precious aren't they?
      Have a lovely day Jen,

  9. Dearest Danette,
Precious memories and so much love. Loyal and faithful. I love the stocking story and there must be thousands of others. We are better because we loved them and they returned our love.

  12. Oh Danette, my heart is broken! But I am glad that Jose had such a wonderful life with you, and that he knew you were there with him during the last moments - we should all be so lucky to have our last conscious moments knowing we are with those who love us most.

I know you miss him terribly, but I hope knowing that he is a happy pup who will never ever be sick again gives you a reason to smile. I'm sure he is still watching over you.

You don't get over it, but you do get used to it.

Everyone at our house (furry and otherwise) will say a special prayer for all of you and for Jose tonight. Take care.

    1. Thank you so much Bridget. I can't tell you how much your kindness means to me. Truly. I miss him even more than I knew I would. I am home all the time and he was always near me or on me. I dream about him every night still. The weenies are still grieving too. He used to lay under my dresser whe the house was too full of people & Phoebe, the dappled dachshund still looks under there & cries fr time to time. Heartbreaking. We will adjust though. It takes another real animal lover to understand. Thank you.

  13. Danette, I just saw this. Came over to read after seeing your comment on my blog. I'm so SORRY! My heart aches for you! Time makes it feel a little better, but I know that doesn't help to know right now. What a great life you gave the little guy! Big hug. Pam

I just found this comment awaiting moderation. So sorry I missed it.
I still miss him and dream of him most nights. I was more bonded to him than any other animal I have ever had. I've had a hard time with it for sure.
      I will miss him forever.
      I appreciate your heartfelt condolences.
      With Love,
      Danette
