English Popovers 2 Ways

As much as I love everything about baking ~ the delicious way the whole house smells for hours on end, the absolute beauty of the finished confection, and, of course, the sheer delight of the partaking of the goods ~ I must admit that I love to knit even more.

I love to knit and crochet all things but I do have a real passion for mittens. I adore cookie cutters that look like mittens and Christmas ornaments made out of miniature knitted mittens and even giant mittens in place of Christmas stockings. Anything that looks like a mitten always has that ooh ~ aah factor for me. You might say I am smitten with mittens! When I found this particular pattern I knew I had to immediately make a pair for ME! Don't you just love the cables & bobbles?!

For those of you who like the more traditional version of popovers I have decided to include my favorite recipe:

POPOVERS

1 T. Melted Butter
2 Eggs
1C. Milk
1 t. Sugar
1/2t. Salt
1C. All~Purpose Flour

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Place small dab of butter in each compartment of tin. Put popover tin* in the oven while you make the batter.
Beat together eggs, milk, butter, sugar & salt. Beat in flour a bit at a time; mixture should be smooth. Fill popover cups at least halfway full. Bake for 15 minutes then reduce heat to 350 degrees F and continue baking for 15 minutes longer.
Remove from pan immediately and serve hot.

*A muffin tin can be used if you do not have a popover tin.

These are so simple to make and mouthwateringly delicious with a steaming cup of tea & a dab of jam!

I purchased the pattern for the mittens online through Annies Attic.com. It was designed by Diane Zangl.
It's labeled as intermediate. I found it to be quite easy to follow and had a beautiful, warm pair of mittens on my hands in no time!

Hmmm...... think I'll go warm up the oven & bake some popovers..... it's COLD out there campers!

Happy Knitting & Baking!

  1. The mittens are so pretty. I haven't knitted anything for a long time. I'm afraid I might forget how to do it.
The popovers look so delicious. I'm going to try this recipe.

  2. Well Olga you crochet so beautifully that that's enough! And do try the popovers. They are delicious just plain, with butter or jam. We had some with our dinner tonight. YUM!
